Panel Base Workstations in Jayanagar: Buying a System, Not Furniture

Panel systems are worth it only if you can still extend them in five years. Parts availability, standardisation and lifecycle for Jayanagar offices.

Panel Base Workstations in Jayanagar: Buying a System, Not Furniture

A panel base workstation costs more than an open desk, and the justification is always the same: it is a system, so you can reconfigure it, extend it and move it. That justification is entirely valid — and entirely dependent on whether the system is still available to you in three years when you need eight more seats.

This is the question almost nobody asks at purchase, and it is the one that determines whether the premium was worth paying.

What “extendable” actually requires

For a panel system to be extendable, four things have to hold:

The components must still be manufactured. A system built from a discontinued product range cannot be extended at any price. You will be told it can be matched; it cannot, because panel dimensions and connector geometry differ between ranges.

The finishes must still be available. Laminate and fabric ranges change. Adding a run in a discontinued fabric means either a visible mismatch or reskinning the original run.

The connector hardware must be obtainable. Panel-to-panel connectors, top caps, end trims, worktop brackets — these are the parts that go missing during a reconfiguration, and they are proprietary. A system whose connectors cannot be reordered is a system that can be dismantled but not rebuilt.

Somebody has to hold the drawings. Knowing what panel heights and widths were used where, and what the run layout was, makes an extension straightforward. Without it, every extension starts with a survey.

Why manufacturing directly matters here

We make panel base workstations at our own workshop in Bommanahalli, which changes the answer to all four points above. We hold the drawings and the specification for what we built. Panel sizes are ours, so they can be reproduced. Connectors and trims are part of our own manufacture rather than a bought-in proprietary kit that may be discontinued.

That does not mean a finish will be identical in five years — laminate ranges change for everybody. But it does mean a matching batch can be sourced deliberately, and where a finish has genuinely gone, the honest options can be discussed rather than discovered on delivery day.

Standardise at purchase

The single most useful thing you can do at the point of buying is reduce variety:

  • One or two panel heights, not five. Every additional height is a separate stock item forever.
  • One worktop depth across the floor, so tops are interchangeable between positions.
  • One panel width module, so any panel fits any gap.
  • One finish family — a neutral base with a single accent, not six colours.

A floor built from four component types can be re-planned indefinitely. A floor built from twenty-two component types can be re-planned once, badly.

Hold spares deliberately

For any panel system of meaningful size, buy a small spares holding at the outset: a few panels of each height, a set of connectors and trims, and a worktop or two. It is a modest addition to the order and it covers damage, a small headcount increase, and the reconfiguration where three connectors go missing.

The lifecycle case

A panel system that can be extended and reconfigured for eight years is a genuinely better purchase than open desks replaced twice in the same period. A panel system that becomes un-extendable after two years is worse than either — you paid the system premium and got none of the system benefit.

Jayanagar offices

Jayanagar’s business population includes a lot of long-established firms that occupy the same premises for many years rather than moving on lease cycles. That is the profile where the lifecycle argument is strongest, and where the extendability question deserves a direct answer before the order is placed.

Ask us the awkward question

Ask any supplier what happens when you want to add six seats in four years. We will tell you plainly what we can and cannot match. Call +91 98860 03777 or email info@srirangainterior.com.
