Reception Side Storage in Jayanagar for Professional Office Interiors
Planning reception side storage for Jayanagar offices — what actually gets stored at a front desk, compartment sizing, lockable sections and finish durability.
Walk up to any reception counter that looks cluttered and you will usually find the same cause: the desk was designed as a front, not as a workplace. The receptionist has a visitor register, a courier tray, a stapler, spare stationery, an ID-card printer, a telephone console, and somewhere to put the parcels that arrive at 11 a.m. None of that has a home, so all of it ends up on the counter.
Reception side storage solves the problem by giving the front desk a back office it can reach without standing up.
Audit what the desk actually holds
Before drawing anything, list what lives at the reception in your office. In most Jayanagar offices — clinics, small corporate front desks, showrooms, coaching institutes — the list looks something like this:
- Visitor register and ID cards (needs to be at hand, needs to be lockable at night)
- Courier and inward parcels (needs an open, deep bay)
- Stationery and printer paper (closed shutters, shelf height around 300 mm)
- Personal handbag and phone (a lockable drawer, not shared)
- Network switch, router, UPS or intercom hardware (ventilated, cable access at rear)
That list turns directly into compartments. A generic three-shutter unit will not fit it.
A practical unit breakdown
A side storage run of 1200-1500 mm alongside or behind the counter typically divides as:
| Section | Height | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Drawer bank | 3 × 150 mm | Stationery, keys, personal items |
| Open bay | 350-400 mm | Couriers, files in daily use |
| Shutter cupboard | 450-600 mm | Bulk stationery, paper reams |
| Ventilated bay | 400 mm | Network or intercom equipment |
Keep the top of the side unit at counter height or slightly below so it reads as part of the desk rather than as a cupboard parked next to it.
Locks matter more here than anywhere else
Reception is the one place in an office where the public stands within arm’s reach of company property. At minimum, specify a lockable drawer for personal belongings and a lockable shutter for the visitor register and any cash box. Cam locks are adequate; central locking on the drawer bank is better if the desk is unattended during lunch.
Finishes that survive a high-traffic face
The reception unit gets knocked by trolleys, bags and chairs all day. Two details make the difference over three or four years:
- 2 mm PVC edge banding on every exposed edge, especially the front corner nearest the walkway.
- A skirting or recessed base so mops and shoes hit a sacrificial plinth rather than the shutter face.
Laminate choice can follow whatever the reception wall and counter use. Where the front elevation is visible to visitors, matt finishes hide fingerprints far better than high gloss.
Built to your dimensions
Reception areas are almost never a standard size — they are whatever the lobby left over. We manufacture reception counters and side storage at our own Bommanahalli workshop, so units are cut to the wall you actually have.
