A practical furniture plan for small Jayanagar offices of 10 to 25 people: what to buy, what to skip, and how to avoid over-furnishing a floor you may outgrow.
Most furniture advice is written for large fitouts. The offices we actually see most in Jayanagar are ten to twenty-five people — a professional practice, a distribution business, a small services firm — often on one or two floors of a commercial building on a main road.
At that size the constraints are different. There is no facilities department, the budget is real, and the business may double or move within three years. Here is what that implies.
Buy for flexibility over permanence
At 15 people you cannot predict your layout at 25. So:
- Choose a standard module width and stick to it, so seats can be added later and match.
- Prefer freestanding and mobile storage over fixed built-in units. A mobile pedestal moves with a desk; a built-in credenza stays with the building.
- Avoid heavy fixed partitions. Screens on the workstation system do the same job and come apart.
The exception is reception. That is the one element worth building properly and permanently, because it is the only piece a client sees.
Where to spend and where not to
Spend on chairs. They are used eight hours a day by every person, they are the most common source of complaint, and unlike desks they cannot be improved later without replacing them entirely.
Spend on the reception counter. First impression, and it is a single item.
Spend on the meeting room table. It is where clients sit. A cheap conference table is visible in a way a cheap workstation is not.
Save on workstation screens. A plain laminate or fabric screen at 1050-1200 mm does everything a premium one does.
Save on storage volume. Small offices consistently over-order storage and then fill it with things nobody needed to keep. Start with less than you think and add a unit if you genuinely fill it.

That is a complete office. Anything beyond it should be justified by a specific need.
Two things small offices always forget
The printer station. A printer on a spare desk blocks a seat and everyone stands around it. A dedicated 900 mm-wide unit with paper storage underneath, sited away from desks, solves it for very little money.
Somewhere to put a bag. People bring rucksacks, lunch boxes and helmets. Without a hook or a shelf, all of it ends up on the floor under the desk. A row of lockers or a shelf run along one wall is trivially cheap and noticeably changes how tidy an office looks.
