Conference Tables in Sarjapur: Sizing by Seat Count
How long a conference table needs to be for 8, 12 or 16 people, plus the room clearances behind the chairs. Sizing guide for Sarjapur offices.
Almost every complaint about a conference table comes down to one of two things: people are too close together along the sides, or the room is too tight around the table. Both are arithmetic problems, and both are solvable before anything is manufactured.
Space per seat along the table
The controlling dimension is seat pitch — the length of table edge each person occupies.

Use 750 mm as your default. It gives each person enough width for a laptop and a notepad without encroaching on their neighbour.
Table length from seat count
Seats along the two long sides, plus one at each end:

Width deserves attention. Too narrow and people opposite are uncomfortably close and cannot both spread out; too wide and passing a document across becomes a stretch. Above about 1500 mm, reaching the centre becomes difficult, which is why very long tables are usually 1500 mm wide rather than proportionally wider.
Room clearance around the table
This is where rooms fail. Behind each chair you need:
- 900 mm minimum to push the chair back and stand
- 1200 mm if anyone needs to walk behind a seated person
- 1500 mm on the side where people enter and circulate
So a 3000 mm table needing 1200 mm each side requires a room at least 5400 mm long and, at 1200 mm wide plus 1200 mm each side, at least 3600 mm wide. Measure your room first; it will frequently tell you your table is smaller than you hoped.
Ends: square, radiused or boat-shaped
A boat-shaped table — wider at the centre, tapering to the ends — improves sightlines along the table for people at the far ends, and it improves the view of a screen at one end. It costs a little usable surface at the corners. For rooms where presentations are given from one end, it is generally worth it.
Rounded corners are not just aesthetic. On a table people walk past in a tight room, a square corner at hip height will be walked into.
The base matters as much as the top
Legs at the corners of a long table are the worst arrangement, because the end seats end up straddling a leg. Two central pedestal bases, or a pair of panel legs set in from the ends, keep every seat clear. Confirm the base positions against the seat plan, not just the table length.
Sarjapur meeting rooms
The Sarjapur Road corridor’s newer office buildings tend to have generously proportioned meeting rooms, but they are frequently glazed on two sides. That has a practical consequence for table finish: high-gloss tops under two-sided daylight produce reflections that make a screen at the end of the room hard to read. Matt or lightly textured finishes are the safer choice in heavily glazed rooms.
