Office Furniture Manufacturer in Bommanahalli — Visit the Workshop Before You Order

Almost nobody asks to see where their furniture is made. It is the single most informative thing you can do before placing an order, and it takes an hour.

Our workshop is at #336/10, Hosur Road, near ICICI Bank, Bommanahalli. Clients are welcome to come and look. Here is what to pay attention to — at any workshop, not only ours.

Is there a workshop at all?

Start here, because a large proportion of “manufacturers” in this trade are traders. They take your order, buy from a factory, and apply a margin.

There is nothing dishonest about that model, but it changes what you can expect: no ability to alter a dimension, no control over lead time, no matching replacement in three years, and an extra party between you and any problem.

The test is simple. Ask to visit. A manufacturer will say yes.

Look at the edge banding machine

Edge banding is where furniture visibly fails first, and it is done one of two ways.

Machine-pressed: the board passes through an edge bander which applies adhesive at controlled temperature, presses the band, and trims it flush in one pass. The result is a bond that does not lift.

Hand-applied: band glued on by hand and trimmed with a router. Skilled work can look fine on day one. It lifts at the corners within a couple of years.

If a workshop has an edge bander, ask what band thickness it runs. 2 mm is what you want on worksurfaces and shutters.

Look at how boards are cut

A panel saw with a scoring blade gives a chip-free cut on both faces of a laminated board. A handheld circular saw does not — it chips the underside, and that chipped edge is what the band has to cover.

Cut accuracy also determines whether a run of ten units lines up. Small errors compound.

Look at the finished goods area

Ask to see units waiting for dispatch. Check the things you would check at your own handover:

• Shutter gaps consistent across a run
• Edge band flush, with no visible glue line
• Drawers running to full extension without binding
• No chipping at corners
• Levellers fitted

If the work leaving the workshop looks right, the work arriving at your office probably will too.

Ask about board storage

Engineered board is hygroscopic. Boards stored flat, off the floor, under cover behave predictably. Boards stacked against a wall in the open take on moisture, bow, and produce units that do not sit flat.

Ask what happens after handover

• Are laminate codes and drawings kept on file per project?
• Can a single replacement shutter or worksurface be produced later?
• Who attends a service call, and from where?
