A school in Bengaluru, furnishing its classrooms.

What they needed

Modular furniture for classrooms — which is a harder requirement than it sounds. School furniture is used by children who did not choose it and will not be careful with it, in quantity, on a fixed budget, and it has to still be serviceable years later.

The brief covered the teaching spaces and the rooms around them: student seating, teaching furniture, storage and library provision.

Everything was manufactured at our Bommanahalli workshop and delivered as a coordinated set, so classrooms across the school match rather than accumulating the piecemeal look that comes from buying a few rooms at a time from different suppliers.

The design considerations

Three things drove the specification. First, sizing by age group — desk and seat heights matched to the year groups using them, since a single height across a school is the most common and most consequential mistake in classroom furniture. Second, edges: all exposed edges radiused and banded, which is a safety requirement in a room full of moving children rather than a finish preference. Third, cleaning — surfaces and frame profiles chosen so housekeeping can actually maintain them daily.

Colour was used deliberately. A classroom should feel engaging without becoming visually noisy, and durable powder-coated frames let that be done in a finish that survives corridor traffic.

The result

The modular school furniture was manufactured and delivered as specified, producing classrooms that are organised, safe to move around, and built to take daily school use.
