What they needed

A complete interior furnishing scheme for a working government office. The dominant requirement in a department like this one is file storage — a great deal of it, organised, secure, and reachable without a floor becoming an obstacle course. Everything else in the scheme had to be planned around that.

Alongside storage, the brief covered modular office furniture for the working areas, executive cabins, and reception areas that receive the public.

Specification favoured durability and clear organisation over fashion. Government offices are furnished for the long term, and the furniture that works there is furniture that still functions and still looks orderly many years after installation.

The notable part

Compliance. Government procurement carries requirements that a private fit-out does not — specifications to be met exactly, approvals to be obtained, and documentation that has to be right rather than roughly right. There is no scope for substituting an equivalent item mid-project because something is easier to source.

Manufacturing directly is what makes that workable. We build to the approved specification in our own workshop, which removes the gap between what was approved on paper and what a distributor happens to have available.

The customised furniture was delivered according to the approved design, and the project was completed within the required timeline while meeting the department’s compliance requirements.
